A very interesting image. Dandelion fluff can be somewhat overdone, but this takes the subject on in an interesting way.

VISION: 4 Stars

I like the dreamy quality of this piece. The sun flares add a very "bad photography is good" feel and the vintage warm colour is great.

ORIGINALITY: 4 Stars

Sunsets and dandelions are a dime a dozen. That being the case however, this idea of using a field of dandelions, a wide angle lens and the slightly higher sun to get the vintage sun flare is well executed.

TECHNIQUE: 3.5 Stars

The wide angle and the sun flare add a lot to this image. The underexposed mid ground gives a nice silhouette effect. My only negative is that I would like to see the foreground subject either exposed or silhouetted - the half exposure distracts me somewhat.

There is also a vertical effect (pole?) in the image along the left thirds segment that intersects the main foreground subject. This would have been better to not be in the image at all, but in this case could probably be cloned out as this is a 1 time image.

IMPACT: 4.5 Stars

This image, even in thumbnail size, has a certain warm summery quality that is attractive. When looked at for a long time some of the imperfect aspects of nature are seen - shriveled leaves etc. that somewhat lessen the impact over time. I may not want to print this huge and hang it on my wall - some of the small details may annoy me over time if over emphasized with size. (Darn nature, being imperfect!) However, at a normal viewing size it is certainly a quality piece of art.

FINAL NOTES:

I was attracted to this piece the moment I saw it. It has a feeling to it that is hard to describe. The photography isn't perfect (photography rarely is perfect, it is almost always a matter of splitting differences and making concessions, esp. in nature) and neither is the foreground subject. That being said though, the image as a whole works well and is very attractive. Certainly a success!
